Job Description: Social Care Support Worker
A Social Care Support Worker provides practical and emotional support to individuals who need assistance due to age, disability, mental health challenges, or social difficulties. They work in various settings, such as residential care homes, community centers, and individuals’ homes, helping them lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Providing Personal & Emotional Support
- Supporting individuals with daily activities, including personal hygiene and dressing
- Encouraging independence and assisting with social inclusion
- Building positive relationships to promote emotional well-being
- Offering companionship and active listening
2. Supporting Social & Community Engagement
- Encouraging participation in community activities, education, or employment
- Helping individuals develop social skills and build confidence
- Supporting service users in maintaining relationships with family and friends
3. Assisting with Practical & Household Tasks
- Helping with meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping
- Assisting with managing finances and household budgeting
- Supporting service users with transportation and attending appointments
4. Monitoring Well-being & Safeguarding
- Observing and reporting any concerns about physical or mental health
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users
- Working in line with safeguarding policies and procedures
- Liaising with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members
5. Record-Keeping & Compliance
- Maintaining accurate records of care and support provided
- Following care plans and risk assessments
- Adhering to health and safety regulations and social care policies
Requirements
Requirements:
Essential:
- A caring, compassionate, and patient nature
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality policies
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable/Preferred:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in social care or support work
- First Aid and safeguarding training
- Driving license (especially for community-based roles)
- Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check clearance
