Description
A Cleaning Operative is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and tidiness in various environments, such as offices, hospitals, schools, hotels, or public spaces. They ensure that facilities meet high cleanliness standards and adhere to health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. General Cleaning Duties
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting floors and surfaces
- Cleaning restrooms, kitchens, and communal areas
- Emptying bins and disposing of waste properly
- Sanitizing high-touch surfaces to maintain hygiene
2. Specialized Cleaning Tasks
- Using cleaning equipment like floor buffers, steam cleaners, or pressure washers
- Handling hazardous or biohazardous waste in compliance with safety procedures (if applicable)
- Deep cleaning carpets, upholstery, and windows when required
3. Stock Management & Reporting
- Replenishing cleaning supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and disinfectants
- Reporting any maintenance issues, damages, or shortages of cleaning materials
- Keeping cleaning records and following assigned cleaning schedules
4. Health & Safety Compliance
- Following COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations for handling chemicals
- Using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required
- Ensuring work areas are hazard-free and reporting any safety concerns
Requirements
Requirements:
Essential:
- Ability to follow cleaning schedules and instructions
- Good attention to detail and time management skills
- Understanding of health and safety regulations
- Physical fitness to handle cleaning tasks
Desirable/Preferred:
- Previous cleaning experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of COSHH and safe handling of cleaning chemicals
- Ability to operate cleaning machinery (e.g., buffers, steam cleaners)
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (if working in schools or healthcare settings)
