Description
A Construction Worker is responsible for performing various manual labor tasks on construction sites, including building, repairing, and maintaining structures such as roads, bridges, houses, and commercial buildings. They work under the supervision of site managers and engineers to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Site Preparation & General Labor
- Clearing and preparing construction sites by removing debris and obstacles
- Loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment
- Assisting in setting up scaffolding, ladders, and temporary structures
2. Building & Structural Work
- Mixing and pouring concrete, laying bricks, and assembling frameworks
- Using hand and power tools to cut, shape, and join materials
- Assisting with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting work
3. Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Operating construction machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, and forklifts (if certified)
- Maintaining and cleaning tools, machinery, and work areas
- Ensuring proper storage of construction materials
4. Health & Safety Compliance
- Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Following safety regulations and site procedures to prevent accidents
- Reporting hazards, unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment to supervisors
Requirements
Requirements:
Essential:
- Physical strength and stamina for manual labor
- Basic knowledge of construction tools and techniques
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Awareness of health and safety regulations
Desirable/Preferred:
- Previous experience in construction or a related field
- Certification in operating heavy machinery (e.g., forklifts, cranes)
- Knowledge of specialized construction tasks (e.g., welding, masonry, roofing)
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card (or equivalent, depending on location)
